CCLA's 50th Anniversary Concert Celebration

May 03, 2014

The Canadian Artists for Civil Liberties is hosting a concert May 3rd, to honour the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA)’s 50th anniversary. It will be a night of music, dance, visual art, and spoken word performance in celebration of CCLA and the rights and freedoms it has worked so tirelessly to promote and defend.
“We’re very excited about this concert,” said Sukanya Pillay, General Counsel of CCLA. “You can’t separate the arts from civil liberties advocacy. Musicians, writers, artists have always been at the forefront of civil liberties campaigns across the world and in Canada – in fact CCLA has always had strong representatives of the arts on our Board – we are grateful to Nathan Lawr and the artists he has brought together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CCLA.”
Hosted by CBC’s Garvia Bailey, the concert will feature performances by Jason Collett, Broken Social Scene collaborator and celebrated solo artist; Arraymusic, playing an original piece by Oscar-nominated musician Owen Pallett; the Juno-nominated Kobotown; and many more. The post-show reception will include a display of banned and censored books, as well as work by environmental activist and artist Franke James, and other dynamic visual artists.
