Archiving Public Sex (exhibition)

April 29, 2014 to June 28, 2014

Focusing on erotic art, censorship, and large public sex events such as the Feminist Porn Awards and Morpheous’ Bondage Extravaganza, Archiving Public Sex showcases materials from the Sexual Representation Collection of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. Visitors will be invited to think about sex not only as personal and pleasurable but also as social, cultural, and political, especially with regards to censorship, activism, LGBTQ+ people, kink, and the representation of women. Participants will be introduced to a range of multimedia items, including classic pulp novels, archival letters, and documentary video. The exhibition also features materials from public performance artists such as Annie Sprinkle and CoCo La Crème, as well as photographic works by Geoff George, Carrie Leigh, and others. Tours will be available and an opening reception on May 21, 2014 will feature a discussion panel of artists and guest speakers. Archiving Public Sex will also be a feature exhibit of WorldPride 2014. Please note that this exhibit features explicit nudity and sexuality.
