GMO's & Edible Tree Propagating with Ken Taylor

June 01, 2014

Eliminate GMO's - use RAGS!
Replacing corporate genetics (GMO's) with regionally adapted genetics (RAGS)
The one-day workshop will focus on the practicalities of how small scale private breeding projects can be started. Then how does one assess the results for the best regionally adapted genetics?
Once each regional "genetic breeder" chooses the selections that best fit their growing requirements - then how does one reproduce those genetics to upscale food production.
How to start your own regionally adapted breeding project with these fruit, nut or berry seeds" will be further discussed. This redesigning will include looking at genetics that are better adapted to Canadian organic growing requirements. Also to be discussed will be the 'redesign of the individual gardens and farm to include better crop choices.
(RAGS=REGIONALLY ADAPTED GENETICS/SEEDS)
Preserving the Past - Reasons why it is crucial to save Canada's fruit heritage.
Saving the past by grafting and creating the future with seedling trees.
Rootstock, interstem and scion genetics are crucial for successful grafting of fruit trees?
What seeds are best suited for breeding new Regionally Adapted Genetics (RAGS) for our future food trees?
Join us for this special workshop!
