DOC Toronto Community Connections Screening: CHANGE YOUR NAME OUSAMA!

September 06, 2013

On September 11, 2001 a small group of religious extremists shocked the world by killing more than 3,000 people. United States President George W. Bush responded by declaring a “War on Terror”. As Canada’s Parliament rushed to pass a tough new Anti-Terrorism law, Canada’s shocked Muslim leaders struggled to deal with a sudden wave of Islamaphobia.
In a revealing new documentary, Film Maker Fuad Chowdhury and former CBC Security Correspondent Bill Gillespie show how Canadian Muslims became 9/11’s unintended victims.
Chowdhury interviews an impressive roster of top academics, journalists and religious leaders who explain how the fallout from 9/11 spilled over the border. A compelling interview with young Muslim couple reveals their fears about raising their children in a society where their religion is under suspicion. Change your name Ousama! was made possible with the participation of OMNI Television, a division of Rogers Communications.
