Trolley Cars and Steam Whistles in the Park

The Workers History Museum presents Trolley Cars and Steam Whistles in the Park. An evening of music and storytelling.

STORIES
On a snowy December night in 1942, the town of Almonte, Ontario's Christmas celebrations were cut short when a train transporting Canadian troops rear-ended an Ottawa-bound passenger train that was waiting at the station platform. The collision killed 36 people and injured more than 200. It is considered one of the worst train wrecks in Canadian history. The Ottawa Storytellers will present a live re-telling of this tragic event.

LIVE MUSIC
The evening will also feature live folk music by Chris White who will perform his original songs, one written for this event about the impact of Britannia Park on the local community and Mac Beattie's song about the Almonte Train Wreck.

HISTORY
David Jeanes a member of the Bytown Railway Society will give a talk about the history of early twentieth century trolley cars (streetcars) in Ottawa and how they were important to Britannia Park.
