Canadian Association for Supported Employment Conference

June 05, 2012 to June 07, 2012

Winnipeg will be host to the annual national CASE (Canadian Association for Supported Employment) conference this coming June. It is expected that over 250 delegates will attend the conference at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel to discuss strategies and successes of supporting persons with disabilities to work. The conference will bring together service providers, advocates and educators to share tools, resources and innovative practices in supported employment. CASE is a national network of service providers and citizens who are concerned about the full participation of persons with disabilities in the Canadian labour force.
Supported Employment is a term used to describe supports provided to individuals with disabilities to acquire employment in integrated settings. The concept of supported employment has made it possible for individuals with moderate-to-severe levels of disabilities to become active, wage-earning members of the workforce.
Across Canada, people with disabilities experience high rates of unemployment and poverty. Organizers hope to engage local businesses and service providers in this opportunity to learn about supported employment and explore the benefits of inclusion and diversity in the workforce.
The conference is being organized by the Manitoba Supported Employment Network, which is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and strengthening supported employment activities.
