Downtown East Rally for Housing and Public Services

November 26, 2011

Rob Ford and his cronies are set on destroying all of our public services at a time when we need more! On November 28th, Ford and his supporters on council plan to bring forward a budget that will see devastating cuts to services like libraries, childcare, shelters, programs at community centres, and more!

On November 29th, City Council was also set to vote on the proposal to SELL OFF over 1000 units of social housing (this vote is now delayed until January)! This comes at a time when there are 79,000 people on the social housing waiting list in Toronto and thousands of people are on the streets and in the overcrowded and often inadequate shelter system. Ford expects poor and working people to take a cut - while he hands out increases to cops and contracts out our services to corporations.

The Downtown East neighborhood is one of the poorest urban communities in all of Canada. We have seen and felt the affects of poverty for far too long and know all too well what cuts to public services will mean. But this is also a community of amazing resilience and we are fighting back!

Join us as we rally for public services and begin to take back our neighborhood and our city!
