Photography Retrospective: Second Intifada

November 08, 2010

An evening of photography and discussion with Jon Elmer, photojournalist to mark the tenth anniversary of the Second Intifada.

Popular protests erupted throughout Israel-Palestine in October 2000 and Israel's harsh military actions quickly transformed the uprising into a war that redefined the nature of the conflict. Israel's withdrawal from settlements in Gaza and the construction of a 700-km wall encircling Palestinians in the West Bank has opened a new chapter in the struggle for justice in Palestine.

Jon Elmer is a photographer and journalist who has lived in and covered the West Bank and Gaza since 2003. His work has appeared in Le Monde diplomatique, Al Jazeera English and the Journal for Palestine Studies. He's currently based in Bethlehem. www.jonelmer.ca
