Federal election - Canada

October 19, 2015

October 19 is the Canadian federal election.

Voting hours are as follows (local time):
Newfoundland - 8:30 am to 8:30 pm
Atlantic - 8:30 am to 8:30 pm
Eastern - 9:30 am to 9:30 pm
Central - 8:30 am to 8:30 pm
Mountain - 7:30 - 7:30
Pacific - 7:00 to 7:00

You are advised to make sure you are on the voters' list before going to the polls. Be aware that the Conservative government has changed the law to make it more difficult to vote. The changes it introduced are primarily aimed at groups who are unlikely to vote Conservative. It is still possible to add your name to the voters' list at the polling station, but it is now more difficult to do so, and your ID may be rejected. Go to the Elections Canada website www.elections.ca to learn more bout the rules.

Also, be aware that in the 2011 election, more than 1 million voters across the country received phone calls telling them that their polling station has been moved. Don't fall for this hoax.
