Edmonton Activist Picnic

June 25, 2017

You are cordially invited to attend a picnic to celebrate the work of the Council of Canadians Edmonton Chapter and to help us to make a difference in 2017-18.

Last year, our main theme was Climate Change, attracting well-known climate advocates such as Andrew Nikiforuk in public forums. The majority of nations are acknowledging the effects of Climate Change; local awareness and action may be critical. Meanwhile, other environmental issues become more pronounced, as toxic chemicals become increasingly dangerous and water shortages, drought and pollution are exacerbated.

With the 2017 City of Edmonton Municipal Elections slated for October, this event will feature brief presentations and discussion, with the intent to make these election issues. Currently, we have identified 2 areas for practical action :

1) Toxic Herbicides and Pesticides: How can we alert the public to the very real dangers of these substances – especially for the most vulnerable – children (unborn and born), chemically sensitive, ill and other individuals?

2) Water as a Public Good: How can we convince local authorities to declare Edmonton a Blue Community by making water a human right, opposing its privatization and banning the sale of bottled water in public facilities?

JOIN US TO MAKE THESE ELECTION ISSUES (We can’t do it without you!)
