Octopus Book Club - Clearing the Plains

February 04, 2015

You are invited to Octopus Book Club for a discussion of "Clearing the Plains, Disease, Politics of Starvation, and the Loss of Aboriginal Life" by James Daschuk!

We had a successful launch of "Clearing the Plains" last November when James Daschuk was in town to receive Sir John A. Macdonald prize from Governor General for this book (what an irony!) . Over 100 people attended our event! Listen to his conversation with Rick Harp, co-founder of Media Indigena: http://octopusbooks.ca/podcast-clearing-the-plains-with-james-daschuk.

This award winning book was praised by many. In the Globe and Mail, it said, this book "should make us question what it means to be Canadian." Candace Savage, author of A Geography of Blood, also stated this book is a "Required reading for all Canadians."

In light of the bicentennial of John A.'s birth, we thought it fitting to begin our book club with this powerful and essential read on part of our history rarely taught at school.

Please join us on Wednesday February 4. Discussion will start shortly after 6 PM. Feel free to bring your supper, we will offer refreshments!
