  3. Defying Washington's Embargo
    Resource Type: Article
    First Published: 1997
In the face of strong government opposition and little U.S. media attention, a grassroots effort scored a victory on September 13, 1996. On that day U.S. and Canadian members of Pastors for Peace delivered 400 medical computers to Cuba, without applying for the license required by the U.S. trade embargo.
  4. Growing International Movement Seeks to Place Arms Embargo on Saudi Arabia
    Resource Type: Article
    First Published: 2016
A lawsuit filed in Canada in March 2016 is seeking to halt a major $15 billion sale of light-armoured vehicles to the government of Saudi Arabia, part of a growing international movement to stop arms sales to the Saudi government over its alleged war crimes in Yemen.
The suit, filed by University of Montreal constitutional law professor Daniel Turp, argues the vehicle sales to Saudi Arabia violate a number of Canadian laws.
  5. Lifting the Iraq Embargo After Almost 2 Million Deaths

  6. "Listen, Yankee!": Tom Hayden Captures Absurdity of Cuban Embargo
    Resource Type: Article
    First Published: 2015
The US embargo of Cuba, like a bad hangover from the Cold War, has lingered on for far too long. After decades of bingeing on the country's particularly potent brand of anticommunism, the nation's ruling elite has found it near impossible to kick its predilection for holding Cuba to a higher standard than it does for putative US allies and, for that matter, the United States itself.
  7. The Politics of Nonviolent Action
Part Two: The Methods of Nonviolent Action

    Resource Type: Book
    First Published: 1973
An encyclopedic treatment of the theory and practice of nonviolence, with a detailed examination of 198 specific methods of the technique — illustrated with actual cases — within the broad classes of nonviolent protest and persuasion, non-cooperation (social, economic and political) and nonviolent intervention.
  8. UN General Assembly in One Voice (Almost) Rejects U.S. Cuban Blockade
    Resource Type: Article
    First Published: 2015
The United Nations General Assembly on October 27, 2015 voted on a Cuban resolution calling for "an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba." Approval was all but unanimous: 191 nations voted in favour and two voted against, the United States and Israel. There were no abstentions for the first time since the voting on the resolution began in 1992.
  9. The U.S. Embargo against Venezuela
The State Department's Mock Indignation Gives a Bad Name to U.S. Diplomacy

Mission Connexions exists to support individuals and groups working for freedom and social justice. We work to maintain and make available a record of the theory and practice of people struggling against oppression and for social change. We believe that the more we know about the struggles, victories, and defeats of the past, and about those who took part in them, the better equipped we will be to bring a new world into being. Connexions maintains a physical archive of books and documents, and is engaged in an ongoing project to build and expand an indexed digital archive of documents. We try to feature a wide variety of resources reflecting a diversity of viewpoints and approaches to social change within our overall mandate of support for democracy, civil liberties, freedom of expression, universal human rights, secularism, equality, economic justice, environmental responsibility, and the creation and preservation of community. We are internationalist in our orientation, but as a Canadian-based project we feature an especially extensive collection of Canadian documents and profiles of Canadian activist organizations.
