Abstract:
The INSTITUTE FOR NEW ECONOMICS was established in 1982 to focus on three important areas of Canadian life: the economy, native cultural values, and the environment, and local communities.

Founded by a group of professionals, the INSTITUTE is involved in a project to preserve the traditional resource base and improve the economic conditions of a group of native people in southwestern British Columbia. The project is focused on the Stein River Valley, a 450-square-mile area of virgin wilderness. The aim of the group is to examine long-term options for the area rather than short-temr exploitation such as logging and mining.

The INSTITUTE is also involved in a project which will critique Canada's economic policy and analyze econimic centralizaiton. The study will proivde " a new framework for economic policy" that is geared towards economic staiblity
