Diversity is a good thing; equality is even better, and without recourse to economic justice, diversity risks delivering socially conservative solutions that alter the identities of the rich, but do nothing to redistribute wealth. Disempowering the rich -- and not diversifying the rich -- is what ought to be at the heart of any left-wing politics. But making economic justice -- that is class -- the centre of left politics requires us to rethink how we currently conceptualise questions of class and of solidarity.
