The assertion has been normalized. It passes without challenge or justification. Forget for now the question of whether and how "our adversary Russia" intervened significantly on Donald Trump’s behalf in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Put aside the glaring absence of any smoking gun evidence to back that charge up and contemplate the fundamental matter of how and why Vladimir Putin’s Russia became "our enemy" in the first place.
