Abstract:
These readings and suggested activities focus on the realities of the city child's life and provide a flexible and varied social studies or language arts program suited to grades 5 to 8 (ages 9-14). The pupils' book contains poems, pictures and stories reflecting the experience of the city child, including original work of children. The accompanying teacher's book provides background information, teaching objectives, suggestions for activities, and annotated lists of resource materials. The organization of both books is in five sections: "What Makes Me, Neighborhood People and Places, Families, Working People, If You're New to the City."
