On September 21,1976, a car-bomb exploded on washington's Embassy Row, killing Orlando Letelier, a former minister in Salvador Allende's socialist goverment and chilean ambassador to the united states; and a co-worker, Ronni Moffit. The murder marked an unprecedented act of terror by a foreign government on Americon soil.
John Dinges, a reporter and Saul Landau, a film maker, and close friend of Letelier and Moffit at the institute for policy studies, responded to the assassination by pressing for a full-scale investigation. Their extensive research let them to embark on the writing of Assassination on Embassy Row.
