Abstract:
Traditional Peoples Today is the last in the series of The Illustrated History of Humankind. It is collection of 40 essays in 10 chapters written by 31 leading academics on the peoples and cultures in existing traditional societies. It is written for the non-academic and covers the basic history and current state of the conditions of adapting to the modern world.

It follows humanity's family tree into today's global village. Through the voices of Australian Aborigines, Arctic survivors, North American Peoples, and others, an international, multidisciplinary team of scholars and scientists explores the fate of traditional cultures in the era of global communications and reveals history in the making in the modern world.

The first chapter, "The Evolution of Races, Populations, and Cultures", examines the enormous global variety - physical, cultural, and linguistic - displayed by our species. The following 8 chapters provide detailed accounts of indigenous societies in Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, the Pacific, Africa, the Arctic, and North and South America: their customs and beliefs, their economies and social life.
