Abstract:
The Handbook is an informative and well-organized guide to dealing with unemployment. It makes it clear that unemployment is widespread problem with economic and political causes, rather than an individual failing. The sections on dealing with the Unemployment Insurance Commission and with Ontario's welfare system cover not only the basic factual information, but also explain recipients' rights and the forms of recourse open to them if they have been unfairly dealth with. One chapter deals with ways of coping with unemployment and the stress it causes, while another explains how to go about hunting for a job, how to prepare a resume, how to handle a job interview. A final section lists community resources in the Ottawa-Carleton area.
