Abstract:  GAY LIBERATION AGAINST THE RIGHT EVERYWHERE (GLARE) is a collective of gay men working with lesbian-feminists to fight the rigid enformement of sexual norms and roles. In response to "escalating right-wing attacks on our communities", hate literature, and police harrassment, GLARE is providing accurate information about gay men and lesbians, exposing the motivations of groups who attack them, organizing community events, and initiating or participating in marches and other public actions.
GLARE warns that the same forces that attack the gay and lesbian comunities pose a threat to everyone who wants a freer, fuller life-especially workers, women, immigrants, blacks, and all who oppose the arms race-because"they want everyone to keep his/her place... and they mean to decide where that place is." More specirfically these groups want to keep women in the home, keep workers unorganized and with lower wages, and keep building the arsenals in preparation for nuclear war. "These people like the world the way it is. They oppose any kind of change that might mean a better life for many more poeple, because they fear it might cost them a little of their power or privilege."
In its flyer "That's us. But...", GLARE describes some of these groups and their repressive actions. Two of the most dangerous are the police and religious bigots. While anti-gay/'lesbian hate literature circulates with the blessing of the law, the police have been working for three years to close down the respected gay liveration journal The Body Politic.
