They've become the hot new form of capital accumulation, with global reach and billions in revenue. So while ostensibly "non-profit," they serve as a pretty sweet income stream for those at the top, while fattening up large layers of the petite bourgeoisie and draping them like a warm wet blanket over the working class, muffling their demands.
