Abstract:  The Satellite Video Exchange Society (SVES) was formed in 1973 as a non-profit educational and cultural organizatrion. The society operates The Video Inn Centre, publishes Video Guide Magazine, operates numerous public programs and assists video producers , media artists, community groups and cultural institutitions. VIDEO OUT DISTRIBUTION is a division of the SVES; this book is its first catalogue.

Representing works by some 75 independent producers, VIDEO OUT covers a broad international spectrum of issues, concerns, styles and approaches. The catalogue is organized in seven catagories: Social Issues, Video Art, Peerformance, Synaesthetic, Multi-Channel/Installations, Other Visual Art and Dance.

Examples of videotapes included under Social Issues are: A Common Assult, by Peg Campbell, a slide/tape program on wife-battering; Andy Harvey's The Uranium Question; dealing with a British Columbia town's decision to refuse a proposed uranium mine; and Teri Chmilar's Nellies, a documentary on a Toronto hostel for women. As well, there is a large number of vidoetapes by international artists.

Video Guide is a newspaper published by SVES. The August issue (Vol. 6, No. 4) includes articles of Laurie Anderson, and another on censorhips. Each issue costs $2.
