Excerpt:

"Even before the pandemic, elder abuse was pervasive in nursing homes across the United States. Now, as Covid-19 rages on, the problem has become even more acute. Elderly residents of these facilities, many of whom suffer from underlying health conditions, have just been hit hardest by the virus. Staff shortages, inadequate supplies of protective equipment, and a lack of testing and contract tracing have led to dealy outbreaks in nursing homes from coast to coast. As families and advocates sound the alarm, many are calling for a reckoning with the longstanding problems of neglect, abuse, and exploitation that have long plagued the elder care industry."
