Abstract:
The attached Hebrew document is a compilation listing a number of cases in which, during the time of the British Palestine Mandate, Jewish underground organizations stored weapons and made similar non-civilian use of civilian locations. While only one of these groups, the LEHI (aka Stern Gang) described itself as 'terrorist', the other two groups -- ETZEL (aka the Irgun), and the Haganah -- were regarded as terroristic by the British authorities.

In addition to

1. the use by the LEHI of the Tel-Aviv Grand Synagogue for storing a large cache of weapons, featured in my earlier email, the document mentions:

2. Storage of weapons by the underground organizations in the Safad hospital for lung diseases.

3. The Irgun hid weapons in the Hurvah Synagogue in the Old City of Jerusalem.

4. The synagogue in Ein Ganim was used for storing weapons.

5. Weapons were hidden in Tel-Hai school in Haifa.

6. Weapons were stored in the girls' school Neveh-Tzedek in Tel-Aviv.

7. The agricultural school Mikveh Israel was used by the Haganah as a secret military training base.

In addition, the document lists several secret caches of weapons and ammunition in civilian private dwellings and collective farms.

The British authorities failed to discover most of these caches. But on 31 July 1946 they did find the LEHI arms (and money forging equipment) in the Tel-Aviv Grand Synagogue. For some reason they did not blow up the synagogue and its neighbourhood.
