Throw It In The Garbage Myself

Alberto Manguel

I will not have anyone tell me or my children what we can or cannot read and I will certainly not be bullied by “the deputy minister for customs and excise, Ruth Hubbard, on the basis of advice from policy analysts and Justice Department lawyers,” whoever they might be.

I have read American Psycho and I believe it is a poorly written, boring and disgusting book, and I demand the right to throw it in the garbage of my own accord.

This article appeared in The Connexion Digest #54, February 1992.
