The Art of BLMTO Freedom School

July 29, 2016

The Art of BLMTO Freedom School will showcase art from our 3 week long summer program educating 4-10 year olds on Black liberation. As part of BLMTO Freedom School children explored themes such as: self-love, Black and Indigenous solidarity, disabled Black lives matter and trans Black lives matter. Children learned about current and historical Black liberation movements such as the Haitian Revolution, the Maroons, the Green Belt Movement, #BlackLivesMatter and many others.

Our show will feature the children's performance and visual art work, but also the work of many professional adult artists who created work for Freedom School on themes of Black Liberation history, state/police violence and resistance. Featured artists will include: D'bi Yonge, Kit Lang, Nadijah Robinson, Amber Williams-King, Janine Carrington, Adee Roberson, Kike Otuije, Melonie Hamilton, Melisse Watson, Zavisha Time, and many others.

Please join us a celebration of the children's work, a resurgence of the Black Art's Movement, snacks and family time. There will be children's programming by Kamika Peters and tokens available.
